Why can’t I open or access Comet?
If Comet won’t launch, load, or connect, here are the most common reasons and how to fix them.
1. Comet doesn’t open at all
Check your antivirus or firewall. Some security tools can block new apps until approved — whitelist Comet if needed.
Restart your device. This clears any hung background process from a previous Comet session.
On macOS: Make sure you’ve granted permission for apps from verified developers under System Settings → Privacy & Security → App Management.
Reinstall the browser. If files were corrupted during installation, reinstalling usually fixes it.
2. Comet opens but shows a blank or crash screen
Close Comet and relaunch it with all extensions disabled (try Incognito Mode).
If it still crashes, clear the local profile folder:
Windows:
%localappdata%\Comet\User DatamacOS:
~/Library/Application Support/Comet
(You can back it up first if you want to keep bookmarks.)
Make sure your GPU drivers and OS are up to date — older drivers can cause blank-window issues.
3. “Can’t connect” or “page not loading” errors
Check that your device is online and not using a VPN that blocks local traffic.
Try opening another website — if all fail, your network might be the issue.
Disable proxy or filtering apps that may interfere.
You can also reset network settings in Settings → System → Network.
4. Permissions or account issues
Ensure you have administrator privileges for installation or first launch.
On managed or work devices, Comet might be restricted by system policy — contact your administrator if so.
5. Still having trouble?
If none of these steps help:
Visit the Comet Help Center for in-depth troubleshooting.
Or open Help → Report an Issue… from the menu if Comet does launch but won’t connect properly.
