Computer now works in email

Nearly a third of knowledge work still happens over email. Lawyers work through redlines over email and investors iterate over models as attachments. This is all work Computer can now take on without users having to switch to a separate app.

Today we’re announcing Computer in Email, which lets users kick off any task with the agent platform directly in email and receive the output in the same thread.

Users can send a task to computer@perplexity.com by writing a new email, forwarding a thread, or cc’ing Computer in an existing conversation. Computer verifies the sender, reads the full thread and any attachments, and runs the task with the sender’s own connectors and permissions. Any memory the sender has built up in Computer is available to the task, so team terminology, formats, and prior decisions carry over.

It replies in the same email thread with the output. Deliverables like Excel models, PDFs, and decks come back as attachments.

Built for how people work

Users can stay in the email thread to launch their task, which also creates a session viewable on mobile and the web. With Computer in Email, the diligence response and the summary of open issues all come back in the same thread.

Where Computer already works

Tools like Computer are most effective when they’re available in the flow of work. Earlier this year, we launched Computer in Slack and Computer in Teams so users could kick off tasks where they already collaborate.

Email is the latest surface, one where the input, the record, and the deliverable are already the same thread.

Expanding use cases

With Computer in Email:

• A private equity associate forwards a CIM and data room thread with instructions to build a first-pass LBO model, and gets an Excel file back in reply
• A law firm associate cc’s Computer on a redline exchange with outside counsel and asks for a summary of open issues across the last three rounds of comments before a call
• An investment banking analyst emails Computer directly to build a five-year DCF for a target, without opening Computer on the web

Same Computer, reached from the inbox

Every email task is a full Computer session, viewable on web and mobile, with the same steps and audit trail as any task run in the web app. Computer verifies the sender before answering a query, so a task only runs with that person’s own access.

Context the thread doesn’t carry

A task sent from email draws on the same memory as one started on the web or in Slack. That includes the terminology a team uses, the output format a partner expects, the facts established in earlier sessions.

With its self-improving memory Brain, Computer’s outputs in email draw on decisions made in prior threads. A summary of open issues can pick up positions taken in earlier rounds. A model request can follow assumptions already set.

For security, Computer “replies" only to the sender. “Reply all” support for Enterprise is coming soon.
