# Use Remote Access

<h2 id="h_start_remote_work"><b>Start remote work</b></h2>

<p>Submit a request from any supported Perplexity surface that needs a desktop device or one of its local resources.</p>

<p>If more than one device is available and the request does not identify one, choose which device should perform the task.</p>

<h2 id="h_choose_an_available_device"><b>Choose an available device</b></h2>

<p><strong>Settings → Devices</strong> shows which desktop devices have been signed in and are currently available.</p>

<p>To choose which device performs a task:</p>

<ul>

    <p>Name the device directly in your request, for example "run this on my Mac mini."</p>
  </li>

  <li>
    <p>@mention the device.</p>
  </li>
</ul>

<p>If your request does not make it clear which device to use, Perplexity will ask you to choose.</p>

<h2 id="h_access_and_approvals"><b>Access and approvals</b></h2>

<p>The selected device performs the work. Its local folders, browser, installed apps, and permissions remain attached to that device.</p>

<p>Remote work follows the same access rules as work started directly on the device:</p>

    <p>The task uses only the folders and capabilities available on the selected device.</p>
  </li>

  <li>
    <p>First-time access to a resource may require consent.</p>
  </li>

  <li>
    <p>Sensitive actions may still require approval.</p>
  </li>

  <li>
    <p>Permissions can only be changed on the device they apply to.</p>
  </li>
