# Work with Browsers and Apps

> The floating task bar opens Perplexity while you work in another app. It is available on Windows and Mac.

Use the floating task bar

The floating task bar opens Perplexity while you work in another app. It is available on Windows and Mac.

Use it to start a request or bring relevant desktop context into Perplexity. Open the main app when you need the full task, file, or history view.

On Mac, the default shortcut is pressing the left and right Command keys together. Open Settings → Shortcuts to view or change the floating task bar and voice shortcuts. On Windows, use Settings → Shortcuts to view or change the configured shortcut.

Use voice

Voice lets you speak a request instead of typing it. It is available on Windows and Mac.

On Mac, hold
FN
to start voice mode, then speak the task you want Perplexity to perform. On Windows, use
Ctrl
+
Shift
+
X
.

Open Settings → Shortcuts to view or change the shortcut.

Use Incognito mode

Incognito mode keeps a search out of your saved history. Enable it by clicking a button in the top right corner of a new task page.

Incognito searches are not stored. Once a session is closed, it cannot be recovered.

Normal mode keeps your signed-in history, so your other searches and threads remain available.

Work with Comet

On Mac, install Comet so Perplexity can browse, research, and perform supported web actions. There is no separate Comet connector to enable in the app before first use. When a task needs the local browser, the app requests permission and then uses the installed Comet browser.

Work with installed apps

Installed-app control is available on Mac, not Windows. It can work through supported Mac apps such as Mail, Finder, Slack, Messages, and Notes.

Installed-app control is different from a connector:

An installed app is used through the application running on the Mac.

A connector gives Perplexity access to an account or service through an integration.
