# File Uploads

> Upload files to Perplexity with the attach button or drag and drop. See supported file types, including PDFs, images, code, audio, and video files.

You can upload files when starting a new session by clicking the “+ Attach” button in the search bar. We also support drag and drop for both files and folders. This enables Perplexity to access the file's contents and maintain contextual awareness for follow-up questions within that session.

Short files can be analyzed in their entirety. If you upload a long file, Perplexity will extract the most important parts to provide the most relevant response to your query.

What types of files can be uploaded?

You can upload textual files, including plain text, code, or PDFs, as well as images, audio, and video files.

You can now upload both audio and video files to Perplexity as attachments and persistent files, using both connectors and local sources. Our system will automatically transcribe the spoken content into text, making it searchable via Perplexity.

What we can do

Transcribe speech to text from both audio and video files.

Identify and label speakers (ie: “who said what”) in the transcription.

Make the transcribed text searchable so you can easily find information via natural language.

What we can’t do

While we transcribe and make the audio content searchable, visual scenes from video files aren't indexed or searchable at this time.

File Formats Supported:
"audio/mpeg", "audio/wav", "audio/aiff", "audio/ogg", "audio/flac", "audio/mp3", "video/mp4", "video/mpeg", "video/mov", "video/avi", "video/x-flv", "video/mpg", "video/webm", "video/wmv", "video/3gpp".

FAQs

What is the maximum file size for uploads?

File size is limited to 40 MB for all file types.

How many files can I upload?

File uploads are not unlimited on Free, Pro, or Max plans. Each plan includes an allowance of file uploads that resets on a rolling weekly basis, and Max includes a higher allowance than Pro. Images you attach or paste into a search count toward the same allowance. Files you attach to a thread from a connected app such as Google Drive also count toward the same allowance.

If you use up your weekly allowance, Perplexity shows a pop-up when you try to attach another file. On Pro, this pop-up may suggest upgrading to Max because Max includes a higher allowance. Seeing the upgrade prompt means you have reached your weekly upload allowance. It does not mean file uploads have been removed from your plan.

Uploads become available again automatically as older uploads roll out of the weekly window. There is no fixed weekly reset day. Each upload stops counting toward your allowance about one week after you attached it, so capacity frees up gradually.

Your remaining upload allowance is not currently displayed in your account settings. File and image uploads in Search do not consume Computer credits, so they do not appear on the usage page.

Enterprise Pro and Enterprise Max accounts have different limits. See Enterprise file limits.
