# Safe Downloads

<p><b>Comet blocks some downloads</b></p>

<p>Comet automatically blocks dangerous downloads to keep you and your data safe. Safe Downloads helps you:</p>

<p>- Avoid unwanted changes to your browser, computer, or device</p>

<p>- Prevent unauthorized actions that could compromise your accounts</p>

<p>- Block viruses and malware</p>

<p>- Keep your private data secure</p>

<p>When Comet blocks a download, you're protected — no action needed. Blocked downloads are automatically removed from your history after one hour. You can also manually remove them by selecting <b>Delete from history</b>.<br />​</p>

<p><b>Important: </b>While you can choose to download a blocked file, we recommend taking warnings seriously. Attackers often ask you to ignore security warnings to bypass protections.</p>

<p><br />​<b>Why was my download blocked?</b><br />​</p>

<p>Comet may block your download for several reasons:</p>

<p><b>Dangerous</b></p>

<p>Files that contain known threats:</p>

<ul>
  <li>
    <p><b>Malware</b> - Software designed to harm your device</p>
  </li>

  <li>
    <p><b>Deceptive software</b> - Programs that make unwanted changes to your system</p>
  </li>
</ul>

<p><br />​<b>Suspicious</b></p>

<p>Files that exhibit risky characteristics:</p>

<ul>
  <li>
    <p><b>Uncommon or unfamiliar files</b> - Rare file types that are often used maliciously</p>
  </li>

  <li>
    <p><b>Archive files with hidden content</b> - Files like .zip or .rar that may contain malware or use passwords to evade detection</p>
  </li>
</ul>

<p><b>Insecure</b></p>

<p>Files downloaded over non-secure connections:</p>

<ul>
  <li>
    <p>Downloads from sites that don't use HTTPS are less secure</p>
  </li>

  <li>
    <p>Even if the page you're on is secure, the download itself may come from an insecure source</p>
  </li>
</ul>

<p><br />​<b>What should I do if my download was blocked?</b><br />​</p>

<p>If you believe the download is safe:</p>

<ol>
  <li>
    <p><b>Verify the source</b> - Make sure you trust the website and the file you're trying to download</p>
  </li>

  <li>
    <p><b>Check with the provider</b> - Contact the website or file provider to confirm the file is legitimate</p>
  </li>

  <li>
    <p><b>Scan the file</b> - If you proceed with the download, scan it with antivirus software before opening<br />​</p>
  </li>
</ol>

<p>If you're not sure about the file, don't download it. When in doubt, reach out to the website owner or IT support for verification.</p>

<p><b>How do I access blocked downloads?</b></p>

<p>Blocked downloads appear in your <b>Download Manager</b> with a warning. From there you can:</p>

<ul>
  <li>
    <p><b>Delete from history</b> - Remove the blocked download (recommended)</p>
  </li>

  <li>
    <p><b>Keep anyway</b> - Proceed with the download (only if you're certain the file is safe)</p>
  </li>
</ul>

<p>To open your Download Manager, click the <b>Downloads</b> icon in your toolbar or press <b>Ctrl+J</b> (Windows/Linux) or <b>Cmd+J</b> (Mac).</p>

<p><b>Can I turn off Safe Downloads?</b><br />​</p>

<p>Safe Downloads is always active in Comet to protect your security. This feature cannot be disabled.</p>

<p>If you're frequently encountering warnings for files you trust, verify that:</p>

<p>- You're downloading from the official source</p>

<p>- The website uses HTTPS (look for the lock icon in the address bar)</p>

<p>- Your antivirus software isn't conflicting with Comet's protection</p>
