# Browsing Privacy & Safety

Comet includes built-in protections to make everyday browsing safer. This article explains how Comet blocks unwanted content, handles cookies, manages site permissions, and helps you understand connection security.

Ad & Script Blocking

Comet automatically blocks:

Advertising scripts

Fingerprinting attempts

Unwanted third-party scripts

These protections help reduce profiling and prevent sites from following you across the web.

You can view monthly statistics on the New Tab Page in the Comet protects you widget.

Third-Party Cookies

Third-party cookies are allowed by default for compatibility, but you can change this:

Allow

Block

Block only in incognito

Block cookies after closing sites

Configure this in:
Settings → Privacy and security → Third-party cookies

Blocking third-party cookies improves privacy but may break:

Social logins

Embedded widgets

Some payment flows

Clear Site Data

Comet allows you to remove cookies, cache, and stored data for individual sites or all sites at once.

Where to manage it:

comet://settings/content/all (site data overview)

Settings → Privacy and security → Delete browsing data

Clearing site data signs you out of most accounts and resets site preferences.

Site Permissions

Each site can request access to features such as:

Camera

Microphone

Location

Notifications

Clipboard

File system access

Pop-ups and redirects

Control these globally or per-site in:
Settings → Privacy and security → Site settings

Each permission can be set to:

Allow

Block

Ask every time

Changes take effect immediately.

Safe Browsing & Malware Defense

Comet uses built-in protections to help detect:

Known malicious websites

Dangerous downloads

Sites attempting phishing

Malware-hosting domains

When a threat is detected, Comet warns you before the page loads.

These checks rely on frequently updated, privacy-preserving lists. Personal browsing content is not sent to external services.

Password Manager & Autofill Security

Comet autofill is designed to work only on verified domains.

Autofill does not activate on suspicious or mismatched sites.

Passwords are decrypted locally only after your OS verifies your identity (Touch ID, Face ID, Windows Hello).

Comet cannot read or export passwords unless you explicitly choose to do so.

Manage settings in:
Settings → Autofill and passwords

Incognito Mode Behavior (for browsing safety only)

In Incognito mode:

Comet does not save browsing history, cookies, or cache

Third-party cookies remain blocked unless explicitly allowed

Extensions are disabled unless manually enabled

Network-level tracking (e.g., by your ISP or employer) is still possible.

Keeping Comet Secure

The easiest way to stay protected is to keep Comet up to date.
Updates include:

Security patches

Browser engine fixes

Improved malware detection

Better content blocking rules

Comet updates automatically in the background.
