# Local Data & Device Storage

<p>Comet stores most browsing information directly on your device. This page explains what is saved locally, what you can delete, and what remains after clearing data.</p>

<h2 id="h_b2690d5670"><b>What Comet Stores on Your Device</b></h2>

<p>Comet keeps the following data locally:</p>

<ul>
  <li>
    <p><b>Browsing history</b></p>
  </li>

  <li>
    <p><b>Search history</b></p>
  </li>

  <li>
    <p><b>Cookies and site data</b> (including signed-in sessions)</p>
  </li>

  <li>
    <p><b>Cached images and files</b></p>
  </li>

  <li>
    <p><b>Autofill form data</b></p>
  </li>

  <li>
    <p><b>Download history</b> (list only, not the files)</p>
  </li>
</ul>

<p>This information never leaves your device unless you explicitly sync settings with your Perplexity account.</p>

<h2 id="h_5a65c17e0c"><b>What Stays on Your Device</b></h2>

<p>Certain items are not removed when clearing browsing data:</p>

<ul>
  <li>
    <p><b>Files you downloaded</b> and kept on disk</p>
  </li>

  <li>
    <p><b>Saved passwords</b>, stored securely in your operating system’s vault</p>

    <ul>
      <li>
        <p>macOS: Keychain</p>
      </li>

      <li>
        <p>Windows: Credential Manager</p>
      </li>
    </ul>
  </li>

  <li>
    <p><b>Settings you’ve synced to your Perplexity account</b> (unless manually removed)</p>
  </li>
</ul>

<h2 id="h_4364d46db3"><b>How to Delete Local Data</b></h2>

<ol>
  <li>
    <p>Open <b>Comet → Settings → Privacy and security → Delete browsing data</b>.</p>
  </li>

  <li>
    <p>Choose a <b>time range</b>.</p>
  </li>

  <li>
    <p>Select the data types you want to remove.</p>
  </li>

  <li>
    <p>Confirm deletion.</p>
  </li>
</ol>

<p>This action clears only local data. It does not affect your Perplexity account or synced settings.</p>

<h2 id="h_680da13855"><b>Password Storage on Your Device</b></h2>

<p>Comet relies on your operating system’s secure storage:</p>

<ul>
  <li>
    <p>Passwords are encrypted and kept in your OS vault.</p>
  </li>

  <li>
    <p>Autofill works only after local verification (Touch ID, Face ID, Windows Hello, or your device password).</p>
  </li>

  <li>
    <p>Passwords never leave your device unless you export or sync them manually.</p>
  </li>
</ul>

<p>Manage passwords at: <b>Settings → Autofill and passwords</b>.<br />You can delete all saved entries via <b>Delete all Password Manager Data</b>.</p>

<h2 id="h_6dbf94a18b"><b>Incognito Mode</b></h2>

<p>When you close an Incognito window, Comet does <b>not</b> keep:</p>

<ul>
  <li>
    <p>Browsing history</p>
  </li>

  <li>
    <p>Cookies and site data</p>
  </li>

  <li>
    <p>Form fills</p>
  </li>

  <li>
    <p>Passwords</p>
  </li>
</ul>

<p>What remains:</p>

<ul>
  <li>
    <p>Files you downloaded</p>
  </li>

  <li>
    <p>Bookmarks you created</p>
  </li>

  <li>
    <p>Site permissions you changed</p>
  </li>
</ul>

<p>What Incognito does not protect against:</p>

<ul>
  <li>
    <p>Websites you visit, your employer or school network, or your internet service provider can still see your activity.</p>
  </li>

  <li>
    <p>If you use Comet's AI features while in Incognito, your query and the context needed to answer it are still sent to Perplexity's servers for that request. We do not save those interactions to your account history when AI Data Retention is off.</p>
  </li>

  <li>
    <p>Standard server-side records, such as security logs and abuse-detection signals, continue to exist regardless of Incognito.</p>
  </li>
</ul>

<h2 id="h_b20bcc6e5f"><b>Diagnostic & Performance Data</b></h2>

<p>Diagnostic reports help improve stability. When enabled:</p>

<ul>
  <li>
    <p>Crash logs and performance data are stripped of identifiers before leaving your device.</p>
  </li>

  <li>
    <p>These reports cannot be linked back to you.</p>
  </li>
</ul>

<p>You can disable this at any time via:<br />​<b>Settings → Privacy and security → Help improve Comet</b>.</p>
