# Profiles on Comet

> Here’s a clear and helpful guide to Comet browser profiles—what they are, why you’d want to use them, and how to add or change them.

<h2 id="h_14beb6dde9">What are Profiles?</h2>

<p>Profiles in Comet are separate browsing spaces — each with its own data, settings, and look.<br />Every profile keeps its own history, bookmarks, passwords, extensions, and theme.</p>

<p>You can think of them as distinct “browsing worlds” — one for work, one for personal use, or even one for guests.</p>

<h2 id="h_1d07fed135">Why use multiple profiles?</h2>

<ul>
  <li>
    <p><b>Separation</b> – Keep work and personal browsing completely independent.</p>
  </li>

  <li>
    <p><b>Customization</b> – Each profile can have its own name, color, and avatar for quick recognition.</p>
  </li>

  <li>
    <p><b>Focus</b> – Open a clean workspace with only the tabs and extensions relevant to that context.</p>
  </li>

  <li>
    <p><b>Privacy</b> – Stay signed into different accounts without switching or mixing cookies.</p>
  </li>
</ul>

<h2 id="h_87b3a5c2f9">How to create or switch profiles</h2>

<p><b>1. Open the profile menu</b><br />Click your profile icon in the top-right corner of Comet.<br />From there, you’ll see all your profiles listed under <b>“Other Comet Profiles.”</b></p>

<p><b>2. Add a new profile</b></p>

    <p>Select <b>Add Comet Profile</b>.</p>
  </li>

  <li>
    <p>Choose a name or label (e.g., <i>Work</i> or <i>Personal</i>).</p>
  </li>

  <li>
    <p>Pick a color and avatar — each inspired by Comet’s visual system.</p>
  </li>

  <li>
    <p>Click <b>Done</b> to create your new space.</p>
  </li>
</ul>

<p><b>3. Switch profiles</b><br />Click the profile icon and choose the profile you want to open.<br />Each one launches in its own window with its saved tabs, settings, and extensions.</p>

<p><b>Customize a profile</b><br />Open the profile menu and select <b>Customize Profile</b> to edit its name, icon, or color.</p>

<p><b>Guest mode</b><br />Use <b>Guest Profile</b> for temporary browsing without saving history or logins.</p>

<p><b>Delete or manage profiles</b><br />Go to <b>Manage Comet Profiles</b> from the profile menu or from the startup screen (“Who’s using Comet?”) to rename, remove, or create profiles.</p>
