# Can I change the default Search Engine on Comet?

> Learn how to change Comet's default search engine and which AI-powered address bar features you lose when switching away from Perplexity search.

What is the default search engine in Comet and why does it matter?

Your default search engine in Comet powers all web searches you make from the address bar, as well as the AI-driven features that help you ask context-based questions and get smart suggestions.

By default, Comet uses Perplexity AI’s search — this enables the full suite of Comet’s agentic actions, AI-powered searches, recommendations, and quick answers.

What happens if I change the default search engine?

If you choose a different search provider, you will lose most of Comet’s advanced AI and context-aware features in the address bar.

Important:

You do not lose context-based question answering or agentic features elsewhere in Comet — these are still available through other entry points, such as the main search interface or sidebar.

The change only affects the address bar experience. All other Comet and Perplexity features remain available through their standard locations.
